After the child’s home, school represents the second most influential environment in a child’s life. As more students enter schools with health or mental health problems, the school authority face the challenge of managing their care throughout the school day/term, as the case may be. Students today may face family crises, homelessness, poverty, and violence, which increase both their physical and mental health needs. Our school health product is designed to provide a comprehensive healthcare service on site to children and youth.

Students today may face family crises, homelessness, poverty, and violence, which increase both their physical and mental health needs. Our school health product is designed to provide a comprehensive healthcare service on site to children and youth. Increasing numbers of students enter school with chronic health conditions that require management during the school day. The understanding of the school health program and its role is essential to ensure coordinated care because there is a recognized relationship between health and learning.

The Program

This is a special product designed by Firstcare Health Service Limited to advance the well-being, academic success and lifelong achievement of students. To that end, it facilitates positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems.

Our Role

Our role as the school health managers encompasses both health and educational goals. Therefore, we:

1. Identify early problems, intervene and refer to foster health and educational success.

2. Assess the student’s health status, identify health problems that may create a barrier to educational progress, and develop a health care plan for management of the problems in the school setting.

3. Assess health complaints, medication administration, and care for students with special health care needs.

4. Create and facilitate a system for managing emergencies and urgent situations.

5. Perform a critical role within the school health program by addressing the major health problems experienced by students.

a. The role, above, includes providing preventive and screening services, health education and assistance with decision-making about health, and immunization against preventable diseases.

b. In addition, we provide interventions for acute and chronic illness, injuries and emergencies, communicable diseases, obesity, substance use and abuse, adolescent pregnancy, mental health, dental disease, nutrition, and sexually transmitted infections.

c. We make a physical presence in the collaborating schools to address these responsibilities appropriately.
